One of the most moral boosting traditions of the United States Army is the personal acquirement of a unit coin from a distinguished leader. This is truly a tangible symbol of acceptance and pride amongst those that have volunteered to do the same selfless service as the others in the same unit. Unit coins can be received from different levels of leadership, ranging from Company Commanders to Four-Star Generals.
Throughout my 22-year career in the service, I had the privilege and pleasure of humbly accepting 13 coins from some of the best leaders, mentors, and battle buddies anyone could have asked for. I am truly blessed to have these life long keep sakes as bittersweet memorabilia of the most challenging and honorable chapter of my story.
